Dublin, Ireland

You're invited...

It’s hard to believe that Elijah is already 13 years old and soon to be Bar Mitzvah! We are so proud of the hard work and interest he has put into his Jewish education and life, and excited to see him writing his own chapter in the long history of the Jewish people.

We are thrilled to welcome you to celebrate and wish him l’chiam as he enters manhood. We understand that for many, Ireland is a very far and costly destination and that it is a big ask. We thank you for your well wishes and hope you can attend.

Either way, please do RSVP using the form below if possible so that we know if you can or can’t attend (Zoom link available for the service).

RSVP HERE!!!

You will receive a confirmation email after submitting.

Travel Info

Where to Fly

Dublin International (DUB) with optional layovers in London, Heathrow, Rajkovic, Iceland, or mainland Europe.

For convenience we recommend staying in Dublin city centre, south of the River Liffey.

For those looking to stay at the Devlin Hotel, which is a 20-minute walk to the synagogue and the location of the evening party, there is a promo code of TC24. Using this will get you a 10% discount when booking a room there.

Other popular locations are near St. Stephen’s Green, Temple Bar district, or Trinity College which are located in the shopping and tourist centers of the city

The airport taxi stand is recommended and runs approximately 50-60 euro to go into Dublin City Centre. Most cabs will accept credit cards or cash. You can also use Free Now or Uber apps to call for a taxi.

Other options are public Dublin Bus or one of the commercial shuttle buses with kiosks at the airport. Google Maps is a great way to find a variety of real-time travel options.

Car Rental is not necessary or recommended if staying in Dublin city center or near the event venues. Most major rental brands are available. Driving is on the LEFT!!!! USA licenses are accepted. Recommend getting the extra insurance cover for damages and tires.

The main reason to rent a car is if you plan on extending your travels about the countryside or are in a part of Dublin area distant from the synagogue and party.

There are light rails and buses as well as taxis using Free Now or Uber. Dublin is small and easy to walk or rent city bikes for a small fee.

Trains and buses take coins or the LEAP card available at train stations and convenience stores. There are two light rail systems. The DART has a simple turnstyle system using the LEAP card, while the LUAS tram requires tagging on before getting on.

The Republic of Ireland, of which Dublin is the capital, runs on the Euro. You can use any major debit or credit card for payment and at ATMs.

Tips are not customary for taxis, bars, or hair salons. It is optional at restaurants and 10-20% is welcome but not expected.

Map legend: Area in green is recommended zone for hotels and accommodation. Book icon is the synagogue. Fork and knife icon is the evening party.

If you are flying back to the USA directly from Dublin you should arrive at the airport about an hour earlier than usual as there is an additional USA DHS security, passport, and immigration control checkpoint in the Dublin airport. This adds a bit more time on the Dublin side but also means you do not need to go through passport controls once you arrive in the USA.

The service at the synagogue will include Elijah reading a portion of the Torah in Hebrew (Numbers – Korach 1-19), which he’s been studying for the past two years to prepare. He will also share his interpretation of the portion as well as read the haftorah. The service will also include the normal Shabbat morning service.

We are honored to have Rabbi Jackie Tabick, who is the first female rabbi ordained in the UK, leading the service. She is coming in from London, UK for the occasion. We also thank Rebecca Charon, Eli’s Hebrew studies tutor, who will be joining us all the way from Glens Falls, New York for the occasion.

Since the congregation is part of the Liberal Progressive movement, men and woman are welcome to sit together and much of the service is in English. Men are encouraged to wear a yarmulka (skull cap) which will be offered in the foyer of the synagogue. Egalitarian practice is also welcome and accepted.

We ask that all phones be silenced or turned off while in the synagogue. There is nothing attendees need to do other than stand occasionally with the rest of the congregation when asked by the rabbi.

The synagogue is wheelchair accessible.

The Dublin area even in summer can be cool. A hot summer day would rarely exceed 80F but since the humidity is high it can feel warm. It can also be in the 50s in the summer. Unless you run hot, don’t overpack on shorts. Bring a rain jacket and layers to quickly adjust for warm or cool weather conditions. For the Bar Mitzvah the nicer side of smart casual to semi-formal attire is recommended.

Ireland uses 220-240V AC, same as the UK. Bring the appropriate plug adapters which can be purchased the Dublin airport.
